Sexually Transmitted Diseases & HIV Information
Sexually Transmitted Diseases / HIV
Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), also known as sexually transmitted infections (STIs), are very common. Millions of new infections occur every year in the United States.
STIs are passed from one person to another through sexual activity including vaginal, oral, and anal sex.
STIs do not always cause symptoms or may cause only mild symptoms, so it is possible to have an infection and not know it. That is why it is important to get tested if you are sexually active.

Put Yourself to the Test
Knowing your STI status is a critical step to stopping STI transmission. If you know you are infected you can take steps to protect yourself and your partners.
Ask your healthcare provider to test you for STIs. Don't forget to have your partner ask about STI testing also!
Many STIs can be easily diagnosed and treated. If either you or your partner is infected, both of you need to receive treatment at the same time to avoid getting re-infected.
Confidential STD and HIV testing is provided on Mondays at the Seneca County Health Department through the Sandusky County Public Health Family Planning Clinic. An appointment is required. To make an appointment call
1-800-524-7171 or 419-334-6355.
