Bed Bugs
What are Bed Bugs
Bed bugs have been in the Americas since the 18th century. Bed bugs have six legs, are oval shaped and flat. Adult bed bugs are approximately 1/4" long, and are typically a dark reddish-brown color. A nymph that has not fed yet will be a light tan color, and change to crimson after feeding.
Bed bugs feed on blood, and hide after feeding. The bites are painless, but can cause an itchy welt. Some people have been known to show no bite reaction at all, which is one reason the bed bugs can go undetected.
Bed bugs are considered hitchhikers, and can travel on clothing, used furniture, and other belongings. They are able to crawl onto you or your belongings (purses, book bags, & luggage) when you are visiting places that are infested.
