Safe Sleep Education
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is the leading cause of death for infants between 1 month and 1 year of age. It is important for any and every one that cares for a child under the age of 1 to know about back to sleep and safe sleep practices. Inconsistencies in sleeping positions increase the risk of SIDS by 40%.
At the Seneca County General Health District, we offer safe sleep education for free to the community. This education is provided to non-parental child care providers, as well as agencies and organizations that want the knowledge and to be informed about safe sleep and infant mortality. There is evidence to show the effectiveness of safe sleep training in increasing community’s awareness and knowledge about SIDS. Safe sleep education includes:
-
Understanding SIDS
-
Modifying the risk factors of SIDS
-
Reducing the risk for SIDS
-
And more…
Child Safety Seat Program
The Seneca County General Health District is a local distribution site for the Ohio Buckles Buckeyes Child Safety Seat Program. This program is made possible through the purchase of child safety seats by the Ohio Department of Health and intended for distribution to eligible low income families whose children have no car seat or has outgrown their infant-only car seat. Booster seats are also available for children who are at least 4 years old and weigh 40 pounds. There’s no charge for the child safety seats. However, donations are welcome to help fund the program.
